Taiwanese Temple (3) – Sansia Zushih Temple

I must confess that I know nothing about this Zushih Temple in Sansia, Taipei County. It is a Taoist temple famous for its architecture, wood carvings and stone carvings. This set of pictures is just OK, the sky was a bit dull and the lighting inside the shrine was dim (it is my own rule not to use flash in museums and anywhere near the shrine in a temple unless it is allowed). Moreover, I didn’t have a 11-16mm ultra-wide lens. Well, perhaps next time. I have copied and pasted some info here from Wikipedia for you information.

Zushih Temple was first built during the Qing Dynasty in 1767 by Fujianese immigrants from Anxi County, Quanzhou Municipality, Fujian Province in Mainland China. It has been reconstructed three times. Its last reconstruction since 1947 is most well-known for being the masterpiece of renown Taiwanese artist, Li Meishu.

The roof of the front hall is beautiful.

These Jiaojitao figurines are the best among the temples I have seen.

The figurines of Longshan Temple in Taipei are almost as good except that they are old, chipped and discolored.

I like the fact that each group of figurines are set on a stage, very handsome.
